This area groups three neighbouring communities in the southeast corner of Los Angeles County that could hardly be more different in how they were built. Cerritos is a planned city of substantial homes on generous lots, laid out from the late 1960s onward. Lakewood was built at extraordinary speed at the start of the 1950s as one of the largest postwar developments in the country, in compact houses from a small set of floor plans. Hawaiian Gardens is one of the smallest and most densely populated cities in the county.
